- SISMEC to Hold Panel Discussion on Drones
SISMEC, in conjunction with National Security Law and Policy Society and the Federalist Society at the University of Arizona, will hold a panel discussion entitled “Drones: The Past, Present and Future of The New American Way of War” on Thursday, March 8.
Presenters to include:
Afsheen Radsan - Professor, William Mitchell College of Law, former CIA officer
Dr. Leila Hudson - Associate Professor, School of Middle Eastern and North African Studies, University of Arizona, and SISMEC Program Director
Alexis Henshaw - PhD Candidate, Political Science, University of Arizona
David Callen - PhD Candidate, School of Middle Eastern and North African Studies, University of Arizona
Colin Owens - MPA Candidate, School of Government and Public Policy, University of Arizona
The event will begin at 10 a.m. and will take place in room 108 of the James E. Rogers College of Law building on the University of Arizona campus and is open to the public. Seating is limited to 100.
- Journalist to Speak on Turkey's Role in the Arab Spring
SISMEC is proud to present Kerim Balci, editor in chief of Turkish Review, a bimonthly journal. Balci will present a lecture entitled "Turkey and the Arab Spring: Turkey's Role in the Muslim-Arab World's Democratization Efforts." The lecture will take place Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 4 p.m. in room 311 of the Modern Languages building on the University of Arizona campus.
Balci has published several articles in academic and popular books and encyclopedias, mainly about the Middle East, Turkish Politics, US Policy in the Middle East and interfaith dialogue.
