As a former student of Al-Azhar schools in Cairo, I am interested in engaging with scholarship on feminist studies, Black Radical Tradition, and racial capitalism in relation to Islam. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from York College, City University of New York. After completing some graduate courses at The Global Studies Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara, my research interests shifted towards socio-cultural anthropology. I earned my Master of Arts in Anthropology at the University of California, Irvine. As I conducted ethnographic research in Cairo, Egypt, my research project was shaped by the everyday humor of people in Egypt. As a PhD student in the School of Middle Eastern and North African Studies at the University of Arizona, I plan to build on and expand my previous academic research. My research sits at the intersection of Middle Eastern studies, socio-cultural anthropology, and linguistic anthropology. My project explores the politics of everyday life through examining the relationship between humor, improvisation, tacit knowledge, and stand-up comedy, with a particular focus on contemporary Cairo, Egypt.
